  • 06 OCTOBER 2015 - BANGKOK, THAILAND: Salvage divers work the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. Divers work in two man teams on small boats in the Chao Phraya River. One person stays in the boat while the diver scours the river bottom for anything that can be salvaged and resold. The divers usually work close to shore because the center of the river is a busy commercial waterway with passenger boats and commercial freight barges passing up and down the river all day long. The Chao Phraya is a dangerous river to dive in. It's deep, has large tidal fluctuations, is fast flowing and badly polluted. The divers make money only when they sell something. • 16 OCTOBER 2015 - BANGKOK, THAILAND: Salvage dealers tear down a refrigerator case taken from a small shop in the Wat Kalayanamit neighborhood. The shop owner is being evicted. Fifty-four homes around Wat Kalayanamit, a historic Buddhist temple on the Chao Phraya River in the Thonburi section of Bangkok, are being razed and the residents evicted to make way for new development at the temple. The abbot of the temple said he was evicting the residents, who have lived on the temple grounds for generations, because their homes are unsafe and because he wants to improve the temple grounds. The evictions are a part of a Bangkok trend, especially along the Chao Phraya River and BTS light rail lines. Low income people are being evicted from their long time homes to make way for urban renewal. PHOTO BY JACK KURTZ

Brazilian production is also expected to fall this year because of ongoing drought in Brazil.
