The opera troupe came to George Town from Fujian province in China. The Hungry Ghost Festival is a traditional Buddhist and Taoist festival held in Chinese communities throughout Asia. The Ghost Festival, also called Ghost Day, is on the 15th night of the seventh month (25 August in 2018). During the Hungry Ghost Festival, the deceased are believed to visit the living.
