  • 16 AUGUST 2015 - BANGKOK, THAILAND:  A legless man rides his custom bicycle decorated with a Thai flag on Phayathai Road during the ''Ride for Mom.'' More than 100,000 people across Thailand participated in the Bike For Mom event in honor of Queen Sirikit, who celebrated her 83rd birthday August 12. In Bangkok, the ride was led by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, the Crown Prince of Thailand and Sirikit's only son. Named after Britain's King George III, George Town is located on the north-east corner of Penang Island. The inner city has a population of 720,202 and the metropolitan area known as George Town Conurbation which consists of Penang Island, Seberang Prai, Kulim and Sungai Petani has a combined population of 2,292,394, making it the second largest metropolitan area in Malaysia.   • 11 JANUARY 2007 - LEON, NICARAGUA:  A man rides his bicycle past colorful homes in Leon, Nicaragua. Leon was widely damaged in the 1972 earthquake and Nicaraguan revolution in 1979, many buildings are still pockmarked from bullet holes left from the war. But the city is experiencing a bit of a revival because of the proximity of the beaches of Poneloya, Las Senitas Nicaragua, about 10 miles from Leon. Nicaragua's Pacific beaches are relatively undiscovered. The Thai countryside south of Bangkok is crisscrossed with canals, some large enough to accommodate small commercial boats and small barges, some barely large enough for a small canoe. People who live near the canals use them for everything from domestic water to transportation and fishing. Some, like the canals in Amphawa and nearby Damnoensaduak (also spelled Damnoen Saduak) are also relatively famous for their "floating markets" where vendors set up their canoes and boats as floating shops. Granada was relatively untouched by either the Nicaraguan revolution or the Contra War, so its colonial architecture survived relatively unscathed.   • 11 DECEMBER 2015 - BANGKOK, THAILAND:  A foreign couple ride their tandem bike during the Bike For Dad in Bangkok. More than 527,000 people registered for the Bike for Dad event to honor Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand, whose birthday is also celebrated as Father’s Day in Thailand. In Bangkok, 99,999 people registered for Bike for Dad. More than 418,000 people registered for Bike for Dad rides in the provinces outside Bangkok and 9,805 participated in Bike for Dad events outside of Thailand. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, the heir apparent to the Thai crown, led the bike ride in Bangkok. The Bangkok route was 29 kilometers long (18 miles) and traveled through Bangkok and across the Chao Phraya River into Thonburi. Bike for Dad events were held across Thailand.    PHOTO BY JACK KURTZ
