01 JANUARY 2017 - BANGKOK, THAILAND: Thais visit Erawan Shrine in Bangkok before sunrise on New Year's Day. Thais traditionally go to temples to pray and make merit on New Year's Day. There are also large merit making ceremonies in many towns. The merit making ceremony featured 89 monks to honor Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Late King of Thailand, who died on October 13, several weeks short of his 89th birthday. PHOTO BY JACK KURTZ
