But gathering salt is a back breaking process. Just ask the people who work the salt flats near Samut Songkhram, south of Bangkok, Thailand. Most of them are migrant workers from the Isaan region in northeast Thailand.

They travel hundreds of miles during the dry season to work the salt flats. Then, when the rainy season makes gathering salt impossible, they go back to Isaan to work their farms.
